A '90s Explosion

Jason and I send cards back and forth all the time.  I've known him for 15 or so years so there have been a lot of trades, a lot of blogging and even some podcasting.  He sent me some of the goodies from a recent pickup of his.

These cards took me back to my teens.  I probably had all of these 20 years ago but got rid of them at some point.  I keep putting all of my Will Clark cards together and sometime down the road, will actually organize them.

The things that I said about Will Clark above, can also be said about Mickey Tettleton.  He was another of my favorites.  I even tried using that batting stance.  I didn't try it for long.

I have a good amount of Bray Wyatt cards, but I don't believe that I had any of these!  My favorite is undoubtedly the card from his "Husky Harris" days.

Two Jedd Gyorkos that I didn't have and a Dale Murphy that I may not either.  I'm accumulating Murphy cards just like Clark and Tettleton.  I don't own a single Michael Jordan basketball cards but I do own some baseball ones.  I didn't have either of these.  I normally wouldn't care much, but I was at the game in Birmingham the night that Jordan hit his first home run.  It's all nostalgia.  Even though I'm not a Steelers fan at all, "Slash" will always bring back good memories of my teenage years.  Not sure on the Tom Nevers...I'm wondering if there's something I don't know, or if it was dropped in my mistake.

I'm not much into NASCAR, but I love the history of open-wheel racing and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  This insert set ties into that.  The cards have race-used rubber from the Inaugural Brickyard 400 race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  I want to put this set together.

I've been listening to the "What Happened When" podcast since the first episode.  I love hearing Tony Schiavone and his stories.  I hope to find an address at some point so that I can send these cards to be signed.

1995 Score Platinum Team Sets #601 Russ Davis

A couple of months ago I was making good progress on scanning and cataloging my Russ Davis collection.  I need to get it all together so I can start looking for the pieces I need and get this as close to complete as possible.  So many projects, so little time.

"Grover" was the manager of the Indians during the golden days of my youth.  I want to get these signed TTM.  I always loved the Topps All-Star Rookie trophies on cards.

The Indians hologram and sticker were picked up just in case I need them to have a former player sign and I don't have a card at the time. 

I picked up the Rick Klein cards to send to him for signing.  After I bought these I picked up a few on Sportlots.  The TTM success took about a week.

2016 Classics #263 Wendell Smallwood

I end the COMC mailday with a card for my West Virginia Mountaineers collection.  I'm not collecting football anymore (other than vintage) and this card fits perfectly into the one-card-per-player project I'm working on.

My Second Topps Now WWE Purchase

A week ago I posted my first Topps Now WWE card.  I now have my second one, picked up in the same manor, as in not from Topps.  I didn't even think about checking their site the day after Elimination Chamber.  Thankfully, there are eBay sellers out there willing to make a buck!

It's less than a month until Wrestlemania.  I'm eagerly awaiting finding out how the Bray Wyatt/Randy Orton angle plays out after that unbelievable development last week (you can watch below).  I knew the turn was coming, and soon, after seeing how Orton was eyeball-screwing the title the week before when he was looking over Wyatt's shoulder.  I didn't see anything like this coming.  Well done, WWE.  Well done.

The First WWE Topps Now Purchase

I'm not the biggest fan of the Topps Now program, but I do believe it has a place in the hobby.  I had forgotten that Topps has the program for WWE until I was looking for Bray Wyatt cards on eBay shortly after he won the WWE title.

The print runs are obviously much lower on these than their baseball counterparts.  All three picturing Wyatt are still available and I was able to get this one very cheaply.

Yes, I'm a grown man.  Yes, I still enjoy pro wrestling.  No, I am not ashamed by it.  You'll be seeing wrestling card posts on here from time-to-time.

I can't say that I have favorite wrestlers like I did as a kid.  However, I love the Bray Wyatt gimmick and how he works the mic.  Thank heavens he is no longer "Husky Harris."
