COMC Show & Tell - 1950 Bowman

I love 1950 and 1951 Bowman cards for a buck or less.  Three of these were close to that on COMC.

The final card of the post confuses me a little.  I'm not sure quite why I bought it for the price ($3.25) that I bought it for.  That will happen when you're shipping more than 400 cards and they've been at COMC for about a year.

I have some educated guesses on why I might have purchased this.  Maybe it was the cheapest copy of the card by a significant amount.  Maybe I bought it off someone's clearance sale.  It's also possible that I was searching for vintage Browns card and it was the cheapest.  The reason may not be one of those, but it likely is.  Still, the cards averaged out to just a little over $1.50, so I am not complaining.

Just four more cards and I will be past the 10% complete mark!

I wanted to call this "Gatski, Gatski, Gatski" but didn't think it would grab the same amount of attention. 

Monday, I received an envelope from Jason.  Inside was one item, the third Frank Gatski autograph added to my collection in the last month. 

This is the first photo I have signed by Gatski.  The one you saw yesterday was an image that was printed on what I would call resume paper.  Thick, but not photo paper.  When Jason told me that he had a Gatski auto to send, I didn't really think about "what" it would be.  I never would have imagined this one!

Seven Dollar Shot

Sometimes you just take a calculated gamble.  I'm not one of those guys that claims to be an autograph expert, nor do I have that desire. 

This item was on my watch list and when it got close there was no bid.  So, for the $3.49 minimum bid and $3.49 shipping, I went ahead and took a shot.  I mean, it DOES have a certificate of authenticity.  It HAS to be real! 

Since it's an 8x10, it will probably be filed away somewhere to be forgotten.  Ten years from now I will likely stumble upon it and it will be like Christmas morning.  That's worth $7 to me.

The Giant Gatski

I wanted to use "The Great Gatski" for the title, but I will save that for sometime in the future.  Giant is a more accurate term for this "card" anyway.

This was in my eBay saved search email a couple of weeks ago and I immediately clicked about bought.  Not even sure if I went through ebates to get my cash back just because I did not want to lose out on it at the price.

1951 Browns Team Issue 6x9 #6 Frank Gatski

High book value according to my trusty Beckett Vintage Almanac is $50.  Thanks in part to that beautiful pinhole at the top, I was able to score this for less than a tank of gas.  I truly love that pinhole!  These old team issue items don't come often and when I've seen them, they've been quite pricey.

From beckett.com  "This set of team-issued photos measures approximately 6 1/2" by 9" and features black and white posed action shots framed by white borders. The set was distributed in an attractive off-white envelope with orange and brown trim titled "Cleveland Browns Photographs". The set is similar to the 1950 issue, but the player's name appears in script close to the photo. The backs are blank. The cards are unnumbered and checklisted below in alphabetical order."

1955 Bowman #119 Frank Gatski

You might have seen this card on my blog already, but I hope that I've gotten some new followers since.  This is listed as Frank Gatski's rookie and is his only mainstream card from his playing days.  I have multiple copies of it.  If you're interested in why I collect this card, you can read some about it here.
