DBBD: 1988 Classic Blue #227 Mike Greenwell

I remember all the hype and talk about Mike Greenwell in 1987 and 1988.  Then, it seemed he just fell off the face of the earth.  I'd pretty much chalked it up to being a prime example of northeast bias, but it does appear he had a couple of solid seasons early in his career.

Seeing this card in the dime box was a blast from the past for me.

  1. Another card I need. The Gator had his moments.

  2. I do remember the peak Greenwell hype in the late 80s, I remember paying 7$ for his 1987 Donruss rookie card at one point in 1989 or maybe 1990 and thinking I had gotten the better part of the deal...sigh.

He didn't quite fall off the face of the earth, he actually ended his career in Japan (along with another guy whose 1987 Donruss rookie card I paid way too much for around the same time - Kevin Mitchell).
