OCAAT: T206 Tris Speaker

If you liked yesterday's OCAAT, I think you'll like this one as well.  Originally this was going to be the first OCAAT post, but I added yesterday's card to my collection first and decided to post it first.

I picked this T206 Tris Speaker up from a Facebook group in the fall.  By happenstance I was on my laptop, saw the notification and quickly pulled the trigger.  I actually passed on it initially but thought about 15-20 seconds on it and changed my mind.  I'm so happy that I did.

1909-1911 American Tobacco Company (T206) Tris Speaker

After I claimed it, there were multiple comments on the card.  The consensus in the room was that I got it for a steal of a price.  Since I made this decision without consulting any of my experts, that was reassuring.

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, you buy the card and not the holder.  Fellow group members commented about the awesome color of the card and how it might be the best looking PSA 1 you'll ever see.

LINK:  See other "One Card At a Time" posts

Obviously the color is so great because this was in a scrapbook for years and likely decades.  You can see the indicators - staining on the front corners and the paper loss on the back.  That paper loss "doomed" this card to be graded a "1," but it also is the only reason I was able to get this card at the price I did.

The amount I paid for it is the second most I've ever spent on an individual card.  Given the option, I'd do it again.

If you shop online and haven't signed up and used ebates yet, you're missing out on free money.  There are times you can use it and get cash back on eBay purchases.  Between referrals and cash back, I've gotten over $300 in two years.  FREE CARDS!  I promise you it's legit and easy to use.

2018 Trading Card Database Trade #17 - parsley24

This was my fourth trade with my now former co-worker.  I'm certainly going to miss talking cards and the ease of making trades with him.  BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I traded him a couple of 2018 Heritage SPs and one base that he needed for his set.  In return, I got some buyback goodness!

2017 Topps - Rediscover Topps Stamped Buybacks Bronze #500 Jim Rice
The combination of this being a Red Sox player and a double-zero card number had me thinking that it would be headed to Shoebox Legends' Shane sometime down the road.  Then I saw the card he has in spot #500.  This one ain't replacing that, so it will likely be mine for awhile.  Hopefully I'll get it to him down the road and he can place it somewhere other than his binder.

2017 Topps - Rediscover Topps Stamped Buybacks Gold #64 Mike Scioscia
I didn't start collecting until 1987, but the "old" 1984 card design was one of the favorites of my youth.  I still really dig it.  I'd love to see Topps use a design that has both the "action" photo and a portrait.  Make it happen, Topps!

It never hurts to get another Jedd Gyorko Heritage card as a throw-in.

2017 Topps - 1987 Topps Baseball #87-103 Corey Seager
The last card is one for the set that I don't think I'm working on anymore.  At least I'm not going out of my way to acquire them.  I guess I'll keep taking them as they come along in trade offers, since I have so many cards in my TCDB traders.

I've decided to try selling on Sports Card Direct again.  Hopefully you'll take a look at my page and see if there's anything you're interested in.  I can always sell off the site and ship in a PWE if you're only looking for a card or two and don't want to pay $3 shipping.

If you shop online and haven't signed up and used ebates yet, you're missing out.  I also use it on eBay to get money back from purchases there.  Between referrals and cash back, I've gotten over $150 in a year.  FREE CARDS!  I have another $40+ going into my Paypal account in the next couple weeks.

Thanks, @Just21hb

Thanks to Justin, I have four new Topps buybacks in my collection.  He reached out to me on Twitter asked for my address and nothing else in return.  Collectors like Justin are what's right in a hobby that has a lot of "wrong" associated with it.  I will have that Griffey out to you soon, Justin!

This card is definitely my favorite of the four.  I'm sure Shane would love to get it through our buyback exchanges, but this one may remain mine for awhile.  I love the old Milwaukee uniforms, have grown fond of 1990 Topps and I love fielding images.  Sorry, Shane!

I love this one as well.  I live just minutes from where the Rangers play (and played in the early 1970s), but have never seen a palm tree in this part of Texas.

You know it's a great group when my third favorite card is from my favorite set ever.

You also know it's a great package when the one bringing up the rear is an All-Star card.  This envelope was full of buyback goodness.  Thanks again, Justin!

Dime Box Buy: 1986 Topps Traded #101T Tom Seaver

Holy airbrush, Batman!

Tom Seaver was also card #101T in the 1983 Topps Traded set.  What would the odds be on that?

DBBD: 1991 Kellogg's 3D #14 Don Baylor

I never realized that at some point Sportflics did these cards for Kellogg's.  I miss Sportflics.  It was really a treat as a kid when I could get them.  They weren't available in my hometown but each summer when we went to Alabama, there was a particular gas station in Georgia that had them.  My parents also bought me two or three packs.  I'll always have a love for Sportflics.

DBBD: 1995 Leaf Limited Gold #9 Jose Canseco

It's interesting to see how much of a following Jose Canseco has.  I figured saving this from a dime box, I'd be able to find a good home for it.

DBBD: 1988 Classic Blue #227 Mike Greenwell

I remember all the hype and talk about Mike Greenwell in 1987 and 1988.  Then, it seemed he just fell off the face of the earth.  I'd pretty much chalked it up to being a prime example of northeast bias, but it does appear he had a couple of solid seasons early in his career.

Seeing this card in the dime box was a blast from the past for me.

DBBD: 1994 Upper Deck: The American Epic GM #9 Ted Williams

Memories...

Childhood memories...

(I wanted to put some music notes up there, but dunno how).

I definitely had my fair share of cards from this set in the 1990s.  They didn't survive the college years card purge.

Reliving childhood memories for a dime.  Yes, please!
