Box O' Cards From Home - 2

Yesterday's post about the box o' cards from home didn't show anything but a picture of the box.  Today you get the first look inside...

The 1990 Pro Set Collect-A-Books!  I loved these as a kid.

And for a look at the inside of the "books..."

I would have been 11 years old when these came out.  It was also during the baseball card boom.  I don't know any other time these would have worked, or any other clientele that would be into these.  As an adult, if something like this came out today I'd just roll my eyes.  I guess you never know unless you try.

If you shop online and haven't signed up and used ebates yet, you're missing out.  I also use it on eBay to get money back from purchases there.  Between referrals and cash back, I've gotten over $150 in a year (including $15 back on one Black Friday purchase last week).  FREE CARDS!

If you're on Twitter, please give me a follow.  You can also find me on Trading Card Database.  I love trading cards, when it makes sense.  Happy collecting!

  1. When I see things like Collect-a-books I remember how lucky we were to grow up as collectors in the late 80's-early 90's. I feel like we need more kid-friendly things like this today, but the hobby isn't really aimed at kids like it was in those days. Kind of a catch-22, I guess.

    1. I agree totally. I wouldn't buy them now, but to an 11 year old me, they were really cool. It would be nice to see things like this that would potentially get kids into cards.

That being said, my stepson isn't into sports or sports cards at all. However, he's shown an interest in attending a show with me. I think it has something to do with the fact that he collected Pokemon cards when he was younger.

  2. Back in the day, these didn't really interest me. However, I've picked up a few of these sets through flea market finds and Craigslist purchases. I also have purchased singles for my player collections as well.
