It Arrived - MEOW!

I've been surprised that Alex DeBrincat Young Guns have sustained their value.  The last three years Young Guns prices have dropped on all but the top one or two players once the set made it to ePack.  They have still plummeted on the low-tier players, but this season there are a dozen or so that have remained higher.  I have my theory on why, but I'll save that for a Bean's Ballcard Blog post.

As luck would have it, I searched for this card with the most recently listed and found this one.  It cost less than the COMC asking price AND had free shipping.  I went ahead and snagged it.  I feel that eventually prices will drop and the $11 I paid will just seem stupid, but who knows?

2017-18 Upper Deck #221 Alex DeBrincat
This card doubles my Alex DeBrincat collection.  The fact that I have just two cards speaks volumes about how I feel about modern cards.  I'm cutting down on the amount of money I spend and the percentages have moved toward vintage and spending money for online trading shipping.

If you shop online and haven't signed up and used ebates yet, you're missing out.  I also use it on eBay to get money back from purchases there.  Between referrals and cash back, I've gotten over $150 in a year (including $15 back on one Black Friday purchase last week).  FREE CARDS!

If you're on Twitter, please give me a follow.  You can also find me on Trading Card Database.  I love trading cards, when it makes sense.  Happy collecting!

  1. That's a cool 'cat card.. and I like that you put it in a red top loader.

I'm interested to hear your theory about ePack and their effect on YG values. I've been scouting prices for a Nico Hischier but I dont want to jump on one at $25-30 if they're going to be under $20 by the end of March. That said $11 total sounds like a pretty good price for a Debrincat YG.

Like you I'm losing my interest in modern cards and concentrating on vintage. But I'll still shop for a RC or two of my fave teams/players.

    1. It's funny that you ask about my theory on ePack prices. About a week and a half ago I was looking into prices and decided to write a post on that. It had to be put on the backburner with my uncle's death, but you asking makes it a bit more of a priority. I'll work on it this weekend and it will be on beansballcardblog.com.

I wouldn't plan on seeing his come down, unless it's for poor play. Because of the "prospect" status I estimate his prices will remain a bit higher.

  2. You've got two more of him than I do, and my Hischier collection is tied. My local Wal-Mart couldn't be bothered to stock Parkhurst this year.

    1. Even though we have three teams semi-locally, mind you! We get the home broadcasts of the Rangers, Islanders and Devils.

    2. I found four boxes in a Walmart in Bessemer, AL on Sunday evening. Funny how that works.

  3. I haven't opened a hockey product in years, but I always enjoy reading hockey posts... especially ones involving Young Guns. It's fascinating how much some of these cards sell for. Kinda sad to hear that prices have softened over the past three years. Can't wait to hear your theory.
