I haven't been blogging or sharing and reading other's blogs as much. I've stepped back from social media a good bit. With all the nonsense happening in the world, it seems a good time.
Something I've been working on for the last week is getting more organized and entering cards into Trading Card Database. Within a couple of days I already had a trade offer and I have accepted six trades already! It's been a welcome change.
If you're on there, feel free to leave your ID below and/or add me as a friend on there. Hopefully we can make some trades soon! Trading - it makes me feel much more like a collector again.
If you shop online and haven't signed up and used ebates yet, you're missing out. I also use it on eBay to get money back from purchases there. Between referrals and cash back, I've gotten over $100 in about seven months. FREE CARDS! If you're on Twitter, please give me a follow. Happy collecting!

Show Stuff
Sometimes plans don't work out the way you imagined. Today I planned to make the 45-minute drive to Plano, pick up three cards from David and head back home. I left with many more than three cards.
David gave me a great price on a card I needed for the 1955 All-American set a few months ago. I decided to pick up the rest of the ones he had. I have a copy of the Larry Kelley already, but it's a graded one. I honestly prefer raw cards anyway, so this one goes into the set. I needed the Leo Nomellini, and this one is in fantastic shape. I had a copy of the Beattie Feathers already, but this one is also in great shape and a significant upgrade.
Not two minutes after I paid, I won the hourly door prize, which is a certificate to use with any seller. So, I kept looking. I ended up spending way more than I planned, but I'm not complaining. I pulled cards out of the dollar box, including some I never thought I'd see in a dollar box.
Six cards I needed for the 2001 Topps Heritage set that I'm passively working on.
Two cards (on top) for my personal collection and three others I will list on Trading Card Database to trade.
You're seeing that correctly, 47 cards from the 1952 baseball set. Sure they are all in low grade, but at (less than) a dollar, I took every one in the box! What a great starter lot to add to my collection, not that I will ever attempt the set. I picked these up eight hours ago and the smile hasn't left my face yet. It's the perfect example of why I love card shows. I don't know that I'd ever find a lot like this on eBay and even if it existed, I'm never looking for 1952 Topps. I just jumped on the opportunity to add these to my collection.

Pack Break - 2017 Topps Fire
I stopped at Target today for something and after picking it up, stopped by the card aisle. This particular store doesn't seem to get hit as much by collectors. Things will sometimes sit on shelves there that you can't find anywhere else. I knew the Topps Fire were new, but uncertain how popular they were. I figured why not.
I already posted pack one on A Pack To Be Named Later. I hope you'll check it out. This post will be the down and dirty version with just a couple of pics.
The Aaron Judge card is the first one that I have had. My hope is that someone wants it and has a the Gypsy Queen that I need for my set. The other highlight is the Nomar Garciaparra. It's /299 and the only numbered card from my two packs. I'm sure there's a Red Sox collector that will be interested.
I've already entered these into my collection on Trading Card Database, so feel free to take a look at my want list if you see something you like. I'm just getting started over there, but I have anything 2017 related (wants and traders) already on there.

The Mountaineer Mine #4 - Bruce Irvin
2013 Topps - Black #81 Bruce Irvin |
WHO: Bruce Irvin
WHEN: 2010 - 2011
WHERE: from Atlanta, GA
WHY (this card): One of the biggest disappointments in the hobby ever, for me, is that the card manufacturers missed the boat on Bruce Irvin. No card of him in a WVU uniform exists that I know of. Irvin endeared himself to the Mountaineer faithful and he is one of the most popular players of the last decade. I chose this one because of it's low numbering, and it's a normal size card. Irvin's Topps rookies pictured him in jersey #00. That's cheap garbage. My favorite Irvin card won't fit into a standard sheet. You'll see it in the next few days.

HOW (he's remembered): Bruce Irvin is one of the most beloved men to ever wear the ol' gold and blue. I just wish he'd played more than his final two years at West Virginia. He was a speed pass rusher that you just don't see often. His first season he had just 21 tackles, but 14 sacks. Teams realized they had to double and triple team him when they could and he registered just 8.5 in his senior season. Every time he made a play at Mountaineer field, the mountains reverberated with fans cheering "BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE!!!!"
When he was drafted 15th overall in the 2012 draft and there were plenty of people asking "who" and.or criticizing the pick. Well, he's registered 30 sacks in his career, three interceptions and two touchdowns. Some of the players drafted ahead of him - Robert Griffin, Trent Richardson and Justin Blackmon. I guess it wasn't that bad of a pick, eh?
