Dime Box Buy: 1987 Donruss Opening Day #24 Jose Canseco

It's not in good shape, but for me it was nostalgia when I saw it.  Well worth the dime to share with everyone.

Anyone Working on 1991 Stadium Club Baseball or have Spares?

I've finished up Series 1 and today opened a box of Series 2.

I've posted my set needs here and if you have needs, let me know.  I probably have 150 multiples.

Thanks for any help!

Holy airbrush, Batman!

Tom Seaver was also card #101T in the 1983 Topps Traded set.  What would the odds be on that?

Dipping my toes into Allen & Ginter

I couldn't resist the urge any longer and decided yesterday to stop into Target and see if there was any Allen & Ginter.  There was and I bought a couple of the "value" packs.  Yesterday I posted the first on A Pack To Be Named Later and you can check out the post here.  I present to you the second of my two value packs.

Meh.

Double Meh

Triple meh.
These three are gold mini parallels.  Not sure what is going on with the Reyes, but it looks like someone spilled Hawaiian Punch on it.

Don't mistake my "meh" comments as unhappy with what was there.  I knew what would probably happen with Ginter and I got just that.  It's not really my thing, but I couldn't resist the urge to try it out.

Dime Box Buy: 1986 Fleer Chicago Cubs Team Sticker/Ed Walsh back

I didn't know anything about this when I first started the post.  Thanks to the interwebz (sepcifically Trading Card Database), I was able to figure it out.

This sticker/card combo was released with the 1986 Fleer set.  The sticker backs had "Famous Feats" on the back that had been previously used as a set in 1972.  All stickers had either two or three different backs.  The lone exception is the Chicago White Sox Pennant sticker, which appears to only have one back.

Well, two envelopes are northbound.  Just a heads up if your ZIP is 48105 or 60803.

Enjoy, fellas!

TTM Success #40 - The Brain

My latest TTM autograph success is from a WWE Hall of Famer and in my opinion, the top heel manager of all time.  After his wrestling and managing days were over, he became a broadcaster and is one of my favorite announcers ever as well.

As I was writing this post, I googled Bobby Heenan.  I admittedly didn't realize that he's had as many health issues and may not be in the best of health.  I feel badly for having sent this now, but I'm thrilled to get it back.

I love the Allen & Ginter's card because of the image.  I wanted to have both he and Harley Race sign the card on the right.  Unfortunately, he signed the cards on the back, so I won't send on to Race.  Nonetheless, I am happy to add these to my collection.

Make Sure You Know What You're Buying

One of these days I will learn to pay attention.  If you read my old blog, you might have seen this post about buying a card that I thought was something else.  The difference with today's post is that I bought these cards online.

The acquisitions were from Sportlots, where there aren't images for every card.  That's where I messed up.  It's all me.  The cards were listed as Auston Matthews but I had a brainfart and didn't pay attention that the card number was 400, which is a checklist.

I bought the card pictured on the left first.  It showed up later the day that I bought all of the others and realized my mistake.  I can't lie, it ruined my evening.  Oh well, at least I got another Stephen Johns out of the transaction.

TTM Success #39 - It's Been Awhile

It's been awhile since I've posted about and TTM autograph successes.  I sent out five requests last week though and the first returned today.

This is my second TTM success from Bob Cousy.  I have no plans to send him more.  I picked up two cards over a year ago, not realizing that he will only sign one per request.  So, I waited a year and was successful.  It came back in nine days, the same number of days as my first request.

If you've never tried requesting autographs through the mail, I recommend Mr. Cousy as one to start with.  He is very dependable and success will give you confidence and motivate you.

Dime Box Buy: 1978 Topps #23 Bump Wills

After a successful rookie season in which he was given the Topps rookie trophy, his career in the majors was pretty short.  His last major league cards from his playing days were from the 1983 season.

Dime Box Buy: 1994 Denny's Holograms #24 Ozzie Smith

I have found a lot of Denny's Holograms in dime boxes.  Among collectors on Twitter, there is significant love for oddball cards.  At card shows, not so much.

It's always cool to find a 40 year old card of a Hall of Famer in a dime box.  This isn't the first dime box buy of one that I've posted.

More Show Acquisitions From...a Month or so Ago

I was looking for something in the bag that I take to shows with me and found four cards that I forgot about.  Oops!  The seller didn't have a price on them and I offered a buck apiece.  He was happy to get rid of the "junk" and I was happy to leave with the "junk."

1994 Signature Rookies Tetrad Autographs #40 Darren Studstill

1994 Signature Rookies Tetrad Autographs #18 Jay Kearney
I miss the days when so many companies produced cards like this.  In this era there was Signature Rookies, Classic, Press Pass (I think), Star Pics and probably some others I'm not thinking of.  Former Mountaineers Darren Studstill and Jay Kearney were only in the Signature Rookies sets.  They never had other cards other than in WVU-issued sets.  In today's card era, they never would have had cards.
